SMC mold
SMC is sheet molded plastic. The main raw materials for SMC are composed of GF (special yarn), UP (unsaturated resin), low shrinkage additives, MD (filler), and various additives. SMC has excellent corrosion resistance, soft texture, easy engineering design, and flexibility. Its mechanical properties can be comparable to some metal materials. Its products have the advantages of good rigidity, deformation resistance, and a wide range of operating temperatures. At the same time, the size of SMC products is not easy to deform, and has excellent heat resistance; It can maintain its performance well in both cold and hot environments, and is suitable for outdoor UV resistance and waterproof functions.
SMC molding is performed in a device called an "SMC molding press", which is typically hydraulically driven. Most SMC molding presses require that the loading and unloading of SMC into molds and finished products must be done manually by skilled operators. A press usually consists of the upper and lower halves of a mold placed between two heating plates. Place the preheated SMC into the lower half of the mold. Then lower the upper plate and apply pressure up to 2000 psi to the mold. Continuous application of heat and pressure causes SMC to diffuse and properly fill each part of the mold. Therefore, SMC molding can be used to manufacture complex and detailed parts with extremely high accuracy.
SMC molds require heating channels rather than cooling channels in injection molds. The normal heating system is steam, oil, electricity, or high-pressure water. SMC molds typically operate at temperatures ranging from 140 degrees to 160 degrees. When designing a temperature system, it is necessary to maintain the mold surface within a close temperature range. A mold with a uniform temperature will make it easier to fill and produce parts with less warpage, improved dimensional stability, and a uniform surface appearance. Dacheng Mold, as a supplier of SMC molds, has many years of research in the design and process of SMC molds, and has a matching mold testing line for SMC molds, ensuring that the initial design and subsequent batch production of SMC molds meet customer needs.
SMC molding features
Large batch programs: Short (2-4 minutes) cycle times and the use of machined tool steel molds support a program volume of over 500000 units per year.
Best Tolerances in Process Kits: The high dimensional stability of SMC formulations and the use of precision matching mold tools have resulted in highly stable and predictable part sizes, which in turn can produce components with strict tolerances.
Class A surface: Using precision matching mold tools that can be polished to a mirror finish, it is possible to achieve automotive class A surfaces that support the finish of the topcoat.
Extensive material properties: By changing fiber content, filler materials, and performance additives, sheet molding compounds can achieve a wide range of material properties. Materials can be optimized for weight, strength, environmental resistance, economy, and many other properties.
